How to Dress Up a Simple Wedding Gown

Let's say you're dreaming of walking the aisle in a simple wedding dress, but not just any simple wedding dress - one that suits your style because you've made it your own. That is to say, you've dressed it up, either with a few jewels, a classy bolero, or something else that makes it totally you.

That's the great thing about simple wedding dresses: they're beautiful as is, but they can also act a blank canvas for the bride who wants to add her own pizzazz.

Here are a few ideas on how you can dress up a simple wedding gown and make it as unique and beautiful as you are.

1. Accessorize with Statement Pieces

An understated, but elegant wedding gown like the one above affords you the opportunity to go big with your accessories. Think a statement necklace, dangling earrings, or even a flower crown if you're digging the bohemian and/or beach vibe.

One thing you'll want to keep in mind is the color of your accessories. If you're donning metals, make sure they match not only each other, but the dress color. Pure white works best with silver and platinum, whereas ivory looks great with gold. Off-white has a bit more flexibility and can be accessorized with rose gold, yellow gold, silver, and pearls.

2. Add a Belt or Sash

A sparkling or beaded belt or sash is an easy way to dress up a simple wedding gown. Our belts come in a variety of designs and feature things like flower embellishments, satin ribbons, crystals, and rhinestones.

To find the best belt or sash for you, think about your body style. If you have a short torso, go with a thin belt. Longer torso gals will look best in a wide belt. Sashes and belts are also a great way to flatter your shape, as they accentuate the waistline.

3. Cover Up

If you're getting married during the cooler months or need to cover your shoulders for religious reasons, a cover up like a shrug, bolero, or capelet is a must-have. Our shrug and bolero collection includes faux fur wraps, long cloaks with fur edges, lace overlay tops, half sleeve bolero jackets, and long sleeve lace tops.

So whether you're looking to dress up your simple wedding gown with something equally as elegant or a little more dramatic, you'll find something to suit your style.
