If you do an online search for something like, "how to feel good in your wedding dress," you'll get lots of hits on articles and blog posts explaining how you can look good in your dress, but not much on how you can actually feel good.
Let's face it, looking good for ourselves, our loved ones, and especially for the camera, is a fact of life. And we definitely want to look beautiful on our wedding day of all days.
But looking good starts with feeling good. Here are some tips on how to feel fabulous in your wedding dress, so that you not only get those gorgeous photos, but radiate from the inside out.
Don't Worry, Be Happy
I know, sometimes it's easier said than done when you're in the midst of wedding planning, but devoting a chunk of your energy to worry will drain you and may lead to other stress-induced problems like tense muscles, headaches, sleeplessness, stomach aches, and probably a pimple or two. None of that will help you feel fabulous in a pair of sweats, much less your wedding dress.
Using simple techniques like five-minute meditation, stretching, and taking long, deep breaths, will help keep the stress at bay and your happiness levels high. Remember to take breaks from wedding planning and do things you love. Planning (which includes picking out a dress) should never feel like a chore. Go with the flow, take it one step at a time, and push those worries aside.
Focus on Health and Wellness
It's all too easy to eat unhealthy foods and skip workouts when you're wedding planning, but to feel truly awesome in your wedding dress you have to feel body confident, and that comes with taking care of your body.
Schedule in some non-negotiable, fun workouts at least three times a week. Even if they are only 20 minutes each, every little bit counts, and you will feel amazing after you've finished a sweat sesh because your endorphins will be moving and grooving. Not only is exercise great for your body, it's great for your mind, which goes back to that whole don't worry, be happy thing. Working out will bust stress, get you fit, and help you feel amazing in your wedding gown. You will walk that aisle like it's your personal runway!
As for eating healthy, a great way to monitor what you're feeding your body is to write down your meals. Try and fit in five small meals (yes five!) to keep your metabolism high and your tummy satiated. Five meals consist of breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, and dinner.
And don't forget to stay hydrated! To get a good feel for how much water you should be drinking, divide your weight by 2, and that's how many ounces to shoot for. For example, if you weigh 130 pounds, divide 130 by 2, which gives you 65. So aim for at least 65 fluid ounces of water a day (that's 2 liters). Adjust for temperature and amount of activity.
Your Body, Your Style
Although your friends and family's opinion is important to you, don't let it dictate what dress you buy. Only you know what feels fabulous, and if it feels good, both physically on your body and makes you smile, then that's the dress you should choose, no matter what Mom or Sis or Best Friend says. This is your wedding, your day, your dress. If you choose a wedding gown that everyone else likes, but you don't feel 100% about, you won't feel your best when you slip it on and walk down the aisle.
Dress to your body, your shape, your style, and you're sure to feel drop-dead gorgeous and absolutely joyful in your chosen gown.
